"Pirates of Silicon Valley"
Pirates is a very appropriate term used in the title. Depending on how much of this movie is based on the truth, these young men were right to assume that if you build/create something that everyone will want "they" will come. I found it very interesting how in some form or fashion Apple and Microsoft are intertwined with each other either by accident or by pirating. It seems as if each group had the ambition and the ability to work on their respective computers to create something that has set each man for life and created the ability for the technology to be available to each person and in households across the world!
"Techie" Chat
I had the ability to talk with my brother as to which OS he would prefer to use. His response was the following..."If the computer is a home computer for everyday use then I would run Windows XP, as Vista still have its problems that they are trying to forget about and move onto their new product sometime next year. If it is a computer that I would be using Linux because of it stability." My brother works for EMC2 and he had more to say that included products from his company. "I would use VMware (Virtualization Machine) and ESX software, because it allows to have one to ten servers on one physical hardware. I would also boot from SAN (Storage Area Network)."
Needless to say my brother is not a fan of my MacBook or Mac OS X, and I do not ask him any questions on trouble shooting for my MacBook.
Install OS:
Over the summer my mom had to purchase a new computer. Since I live further away than my brother we went with a HP desktop and installed Windows Vista. As much as my brother is not a fan of Vista XP was no longer available. It was an interesting experience and different from when I purchased my MacBook last November (I just pushed the on button).
Daily Use:
Every day I am using my MacBook for personal, proffessional, and Masters work. At school I use my desktop which is an old Gateway computer which has Windows XP. I can honestly state that I was more comfortable using Windows XP when I moved to BHS, but was able to adapt to using then an iBook. Since starting my Masters program I have become more comfortable using my Mac OS X, and have purchased a MacBook with Mac OS X, Leopard. Now, when I visit my mother she now has Windows Vista, it was definitely different than what I have been used too and I am learning new information every time I go home.
